A Volatile Yeast

Jesus sometimes talked about yeast as though it is bad. He tells us to: "avoid the yeast of the Pharisees" (Matthew 16:11, Luke 12:1). I understand His instruction; we are to keep ourselves free from a "works" mentality or wrong doctrine, so we do not corrupt our self and our whole group.

On Sunday night I had a dream involving yeasts which seemed to speak in a completely opposite way.

Here is my dream:
I was in the Middle East (though I've never actually been there). I was one of a random group of men who had been kidnapped and brought to a large training camp in the desert. A well dressed man took me away to impress me with the camp, and to teach me about his religion and the big new "Hope For Life" project they would soon launch.

When we returned to our prison compound, he asked me to share with our group about "hope for life". I asked: "YOUR hope for life project?" implying that I new of other projects of that name, (and I do; the gospel of Jesus Christ is the ultimate Hope For Life!)

And I went on: "I belong to Jesus, He is my Lord. Would you like me to tell you about Him?" The man just stood there, he looked totally deflated and said nothing more, he was done. After that he gathered all of us captives into a bus and took us to a nearby city and let us go free.

I believe that this religious leader believed me to be armed and dangerous; a volatile yeast which could quickly infect his whole training camp with the light, freedom and hope which always comes with Jesus.

The meaning of this modern-day parable is that we Christ-centred New-Covenant Christians bring the presence of Jesus with us where-ever we go: In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you  (John 14:20).

My wife, Trish, is a gifted and enthusiastic baker. Our whole house fills with the aroma of the different breads as she bakes. We all love to eat the bread, the Easter buns, and the fruity loaves she makes; they are a part of our family.

So with Jesus, in us, in the world .. We are His yeast in the world; an important ingredient in the bread of life.

I am encouraged in my conviction that sticking with Jesus will always be she safest course ..
They overcame him because of the Lamb's blood, and because of the word of their testimony. They didn't love their life, even to death (Revelation 12:11).

Glory . . Praise Jesus . .

P.S.
My wife, Trish, and I have been married 31 years today! We are rejoicing and thanking our God who is the third strand in our union (Ecclesiastes 4:12) .. a threefold cord is not easily broken.
